What is VantageScore?
It used to be that each bureau called credit scores by a different name: Equifax = Beacon, TransUnsion = Empirica, and Experian = Fair Issac. However, in 2006 the three bureaus joined forces to develop a uniform scoring model called VantageScore. Finally the bureaus are “on the same page†with their formula but the scores will still be different since the information in each credit file is different. Lenders and creditors may have a preference as to which bureau they like to use. Or they may pull reports from all three and take the median score. Whatever the method, the consumer still needs to stay on top of all three reports.
