Credit Report Repair
First, what is a credit report?
A credit report is a financial report card. It is a blueprint of all of your loans, credit accounts, any other debt information, and public records. This information is what finance companies use to determine whether or not they will lend you money. Employers, landlords, and insurance companies will often use your report as well to determine if you are a good candidate or too big of a risk. The "big three" national credit reporting agencies (CRAs), better known as credit bureaus, gather information from creditors, and other sources, to put on a credit report. You credit score is then assessed by the information that is listed on your report. Both your report and your score can be considered two of your greatest financial assets.
Many different factors affect your credit score; how you pay your bills is the biggest. Maybe you hit hard times and couldn't make your payments on time, or maybe you had a temporary lapse of reason and maxed out your credit cards, perhaps you have been a victim of identity theft, or more commonly a victim of credit reporting errors. Whatever the circumstances that led to your poor credit history, you can improve it through credit report repair. There are people who will say that credit report repair is illegal or unethical and that only time will improve credit reports. While time is certainly an important factor, there are legal and ethical process that can expedite the process.
A piece of legislation called the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) allows consumers to perform credit report repair legally. Through this law, consumers can dispute items on their credit report that they feel are inaccurate, unfair, or outdated. The credit bureaus must supply adequate proof that the item in dispute is accurate.
The credit report repair process is quite simple, just about anyone can do it provided they know the protocol to follow. Getting results can be the challenging part. Credit bureaus do not like consumers to challenge their credit reports. It is very time consuming and costly for them to verify information. More and more people are discovering credit report repair which makes life very difficult for the folks at the credit bureaus. They in-turn make life difficult for you. Often they will ignore your letters or implement a variety of stall tactics to intimidate you or frustrate your credit report repair efforts.
By doing your research you can learn how to combat the bureaus on your own. But it does take time, patience, and perseverance. Or you could leave matters to the experts here at Legacy Legal Services.
