Repair Credit
What does it mean to repair credit?
Repair credit (better known as credit repair) is a general term often used to describe the process of improving one's financial credit reputation, or creditworthiness. The very first time a consumer applies for a credit card or loan, a credit file is established by the credit reporting agencies (CRAs) more commonly known as the credit bureaus. From that point your credit accounts, loans, payment histories, checking accounts, and public records are all monitored and recorded on a credit report.
Consumers often find the information on their credit report to be inaccurate or misleading which initiates the repair credit process. There are sources out there, many employed by the credit bureaus to discourage consumers, who will say that no one can repair credit. This is absolutely false. In fact there are several laws that protect and support the consumer when it comes to credit.
A piece of legislation called the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) allows consumers to repair credit legally. Through this law, consumers can dispute items on their credit report that they feel are inaccurate, unfair, or outdated. The credit bureaus must supply adequate proof that the item in dispute is accurate.
The process to repair credit seems simple enough. You will find plenty of people who will say that anyone can do it. This is true; it just requires knowing the protocol to follow. Getting results can be the challenging part. Credit bureaus do not want you to challenge items on your credit report. It is very time consuming and costly for them to verify information. More and more people are discovering they can repair credit which makes life very difficult for the folks at the credit bureaus. They in-turn make life difficult for you. Often they will ignore your letters or implement a variety of stall tactics to intimidate you or frustrate your efforts.
By doing your research you can learn how to combat the bureaus on your own. But it does take time, patience, and perseverance. Or you could leave matters to the experts here at Legacy Legal Services. We have had much experience and success with the repair credit process. Let us help you get the results and credit you deserve.
